After the great fire of 1624, King Christian IV rebuilt the town below Akershus in a rectangular grid, today’s Kvadraturen; on Christiania torv, a fountain with a pointing hand recalls the spot where he is said to have chosen the site, and Christiania’s first town hall, of 1641, still stands, VisitOSLO records.
