About Akershus Fortress
The building of Akershus Castle and Fortress began in 1299 under King Håkon V; King Christian IV (1588–1648) modernised it into a Renaissance castle and royal residence, VisitOSLO records. The fortress grounds are open daily from 06:00 to 21:00; Akershus Castle, with its banquet halls, the Royal Mausoleum and the church, has its own season and tickets, and Norway’s Resistance Museum stands within the walls.
