Oslo on film: Joachim Trier’s city, from Reprise to Sentimental Value
Joachim Trier has filmed Oslo so often that VisitOSLO calls the city almost a recurring supporting character in his work. Here are four of his films, with official trailers where they exist, and the places to find them. By the ULTIMATE Oslo Editorial Team.

Sentimental Value (2025)
Starring Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgård and Elle Fanning, Sentimental Value won the 2026 Academy Award for best international feature film, VisitOSLO records. Much of the action takes place in a characteristic wooden house in Frogner; look too for the National Theatre, the cemetery of Vår Frelsers gravlund and the restaurant Lorry.
The Worst Person in the World (2021)
Julie, played by Renate Reinsve, is turning thirty and her life is an existential mess, in VisitOSLO’s words. The film is full of Oslo scenery: the views from Ekebergrestauranten and St Hanshaugen, a run through the city down to the Barcode, and a sunrise watched from Akershus Fortress.
Ekebergrestauranten Akershus Fortress
Oslo, August 31st (2011)
Anders, played by Anders Danielsen Lie, wanders Oslo after a stay in rehab, trying to reconnect with friends and family. Follow him through St Hanshaugen and Frogner, past a café by the Palace Park and down Kirkeveien to Vigeland Sculpture Park, VisitOSLO suggests. We found no official trailer online, so we show none.
Reprise (2006)
Two young would-be novelists, Erik and Phillip, live through the Oslo summer: swim at a beach on Bygdøy, cycle at Briskeby and sit on a bench in Vigeland Sculpture Park, as VisitOSLO maps it. With Oslo, August 31st and The Worst Person in the World it makes up what the film-makers themselves call the Oslo Trilogy. We found no official trailer online.
