Oslo’s centre runs along Karl Johans gate, from the Central Station uphill to the Royal Palace, past the Cathedral, the Grand Hotel and the National Theatre. To the south lies Kvadraturen, the grid of streets King Christian IV laid out after the fire of 1624, with Akershus Fortress on its headland and the City Hall on the harbour.
