About Museum of the Viking Age

The former Viking Ship Museum on Bygdøy is closed while the new Museum of the Viking Age is built around it. The Oseberg, Gokstad and Tune ships and the Oseberg sledges are already in place, and the move of more than 5,000 objects began in 2026; the museum plans to reopen in November 2027, “but this can still change”, in its own words. Until then, see Viking treasures at the Historical Museum in the city centre.
