About Oslo by train, tram and boat: the back story

Oslo is easy without a car. The Flytoget Airport Express reaches the city centre from Oslo Airport in 19 minutes, every 10 minutes; Vy’s regional trains run to the airport too. In the city, Ruter runs the T-bane (metro), trams, buses and island boats on one ticket; the Oslo Pass includes them. Long-distance trains leave Oslo S for Bergen, about 6.5 to 7.5 hours over the mountains, with a change at Myrdal for the Flåm Railway.

From the airport

Flytoget: every 10 minutes, 19 minutes to the city centre. Vy’s regional trains also serve the airport.

In the city

Ruter: T-bane, trams, buses and boats on one ticket. The T-bane climbs to Holmenkollen and Frognerseteren; trams 13 and 19 run to Ekebergparken; bus 30 runs to the Bygdøy museums.

Buy Ruter tickets in its app before you board; the Oslo Pass covers public transport too.

Into the mountains

Vy’s Bergen Line: Oslo to Bergen in about 6.5 to 7.5 hours, 6–7 departures a day; Oslo to Myrdal about 5 hours, then about an hour down the Flåm Railway.

Our advice: ride the Bergen Line by day for the high mountain plateau.
